Quarantine Series: 8 Activities You Can Do At Home While Social Distancing

30 March 2020

Don't let the beach photo fool you. I am currently staying at home keeping myself safe from this pandemic. As the new cases of Covid-19 increases rapidly everyday, it is best to stay indoors and keeping yourself clean and healthy. Aside from working at home during weekdays, you'll probably find yourself wondering how you will spend your time during quarantine. Hence, I compiled a few at home activities ( to keep you entertained and, hopefully, help us all get through this pandemic.
1. Binge watch shows/ movies. It is a fact that you will be spending hours and hours scrolling through your phone, switching from different social media apps. You've already tweeted that you're #bored, watched hundreds of beauty and cooking videos on Facebook, and run out of outdoor photos to post on Instagram. Well my friend, this is your chance to finally watch the shows or movies you have added to your list on Netflix! If you're on the hunt for a new show or movies, there are innumerable options available on the app that are just one click away.

2. Play games with your family. While social distancing is now the current "trend", here in Dubai, we are required to stay at home and only go out of our houses for emergencies only. It is the time to bond with your quaranteam. One of our usual activities at home, aside from looking forward to our next meal haha and watching movies nightly, is playing darts. At first, I thought it is not the right sport for me. Silly reason of mine, it does not match my "image" (To this point, I realized how silly I really was, to based a sport on how I look). But upon playing the game, my competitive self enjoyed the thrill and the challenge and now I am up for a lot of rounds!

3. Read a book. Similar to watching your most awaited shows, you now have the time to open that book you've been keeping in your self for quite some time now and finally open the pages and get lost in another world. I've been planning to hunt for a good book since it has been long time since I read an actual book. For me, it is still more pleasing to have a physical book because I like to collect all the books I've read for records and also the longer the time passes, the better the smell of the pages. if you have great book recommendations, I would love to hear them in the comments below!

4. Workout.  If you've been planning to stick to a healthy and fit lifestyle, yet you've been also using the "I'm too busy" excuse, this si the moment to dedicate your time to working out. Aside from working out and also because of the prevalent virus, eating clean and healthy is definitely a must. I've started a new diet which is LCIF a month ago- Low Carb Intermittent Fasting. However, because of the Covid-19 madness, I've put aside the "low carb" since I want to take more nutrition and just doing intermittent fasting for now. For my workouts, I've finish the 2 week ABS challenge of Chloe Ting, and fam, the result was promising! I'm planning to do it again with the complete plan. On a side note, my brother-in-law is a fitness trainer so I also train with him when I'm in the mood for some serious and intense workout sesh!

5. Pamper yourself. Although all of the things I listed here are ways to pamper yourself, there are other different at-home pampering practices to help yourself relax and promote self-care. My daily routine for work days start with a 15- 20 minute shower. If you know me personally, you know that I am not the 20-minute shower girl type. I take my showers very seriously and I treasure showers so much! This sounds exaggerated but because I consider showers as therapy- It's my time to be alone, to think, to relieve my stress, and to feel that i am taking care of myself. You can also do at-home spa- foot spa, doing your own manicure and pedicure, facial, and body scrub. Plus what makes it better is that you don't have to spend a single penny and you're doing it int he comfort of your own home.

6. Connect with your families and friends. Now that you're just sitting at home, call your friends and ask them how they are doing. Living in Dubai, I'm very concerned & worried about my family in the Philippines. Hence, we always catch up via video chat and remind each other to stay at home and limit going outside only if necessary. I also ask my friends about their health and their their work, ensuring that they are taking precautionary measures as well.

7. Declutter. Whether you're a clean freak or not, decluttering is such a fulfilling task. It can be cleaning your closet, throwing away unused, old, or expired products in your drawer, or organizing your workstation. From tidying up your home, you get to discover some lost treasures you've been finding for years!

8. Sign up for online courses.  To make myself productively occupied, I search for some free courses online that I want to study. Currently, I'm taking a blogging course to advance my blogging game and to produce better content. Online courses allows flexibility in terms of schedule and learning location, and not to mention there are millions of free courses available online.

These are just some activities you can do at home and I'm pretty sure there are a lot more. I would like to hear some at-home activities suggestions from you. Please feel free to share them on the comments below!
